Seliroko is a Kenya-based registered non-profit organisation dedicated to keeping children in marginalised communities in school by providing water access and practical climate education.
In climate-vulnerable regions, water shortages force schools to close and send children home — disrupting learning and pushing vulnerable learners further behind. Yet the schools most affected by drought remain the least equipped to respond.
As a result, children and youth lose weeks of learning every year without:
- reliable water for drinking, sanitation, and hygiene at school
- practical knowledge to conserve water and adapt to drought
- community systems to sustain water access when the rains fail
This gap disproportionately affects marginalised learners — especially rural children from low-income households in drought-prone counties.
We work at the intersection of water access, climate education, and education continuity, focusing on tangible solutions that respond directly to the water and climate challenges disrupting schooling.
Our approach goes beyond awareness. Seliroko installs rainwater harvesting and storage systems in schools, and delivers hands-on programmes that enable young people to understand water and climate risks, apply conservation practices, and become active stewards of their water sources and environments. We embed learning within community realities — such as water scarcity, drought preparedness, and environmental protection. The goal is to ensure that every child has water at school and the knowledge to protect it.
Seliroko partners with schools, community groups, local leaders, and institutions to deliver inclusive, locally relevant programmes. Our work prioritises underserved rural and peri-urban areas where water scarcity regularly disrupts schooling.
